Terroir and Winemaking

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is the region's signature red — not to be confused with the Tuscan town of the same name — offering ripe dark fruit, soft tannins and reliable drinkability that has made it one of Italy's most widely exported everyday reds. Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo, a deeply colored rosé made from the same Montepulciano grape, provides a fuller-bodied alternative to typical pink wines. Trebbiano d'Abruzzo rounds out the region's whites with fresh, uncomplicated character. Abruzzo's winemaking has grown increasingly quality-focused in recent years, even as it remains defined by an unpretentious, food-friendly ethos.
