Red Wines

Red wine is the backbone of Italian winemaking, from the Nebbiolo of Barolo and Barbaresco in Piedmont to the Sangiovese of Chianti Classico and Brunello di Montalcino in Tuscany, and the sun-ripened Primitivo, Negroamaro and Nero d'Avola of the south.

Our database lists 3,474 Italian red wines from 21 regions. Piedmont, Tuscany and Sicily are the best represented regions. The most common denominations are Toscana IGT, Barolo DOCG and Alto Adige/Sudtirol DOC. Leading grape varieties include Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Merlot.
